Fall Office Bearers Conference

Date:

Saturday, November 18, 2017

Time:

9:30am

Location:

Ancaster Canadian Reformed Church building (575 Shaver Road, Ancaster, ON)

Description:

This event has been scheduled for Saturday, November 18 at 9:30 am in the Ancaster Canadian Reformed Church building (575 Shaver Road, Ancaster, ON). The topic for this conference is: “How Do We hold onto the Blessed Gift of the Weekly Sabbatical?”

How should elders and deacons advise members about travel and restaurants on Sundays? Or, about vocations, contracts, and positions that would involve Sunday work? Is it okay to say that all the law is fulfilled in Christ and therefore all work of every kind is permissible on the Lord’s Day, provided one attends worship?

At this conference we will talk about the Sabbath as “creation ordinance,” “covenant ordinance,” and “life ordinance.” God really did create the Sabbath for man, that is, for man’s life, joy, and worship. It is one of his very good gifts. Instead of worrying that our post-Christian society is going to squeeze us out of business because of our position on Sunday rest, let’s teach our people to rejoice in the blessed gift of life, rest, and worship given by God

The speaker is Dr. T. Van Raalte, professor of Ecclesiology at the Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary. All men are encouraged to come. After the discussion, you will receive an opportunity to present any questions that you might have, related to your work as office bearer. Browse at the book table; if purchasing, keep in mind that debit and credit card payment are not available – cash and cheques are. The meeting will close at approximately 12:30 pm, after which refreshments will be provided.
